Terminal

Notes and todos in your terminal

remain is the command line client for RemainAI. It reads and writes the same library as the web app and the Android app, so a thought you have mid-deploy does not need a browser tab.

Install on Debian and Ubuntu

curl -fsSL https://apt.remainai.org/remain.gpg \
  | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/remain.gpg >/dev/null
echo 'deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/remain.gpg] https://apt.remainai.org stable main' \
  | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/remain.list
sudo apt update && sudo apt install remain
remain auth login

The key is scoped with signed-by, so it vouches for RemainAI and nothing else, and remain upgrades with the rest of your system. auth login shows a code you approve in the browser.

Capture from anywhere in the shell

remain capture "look into connection pooling for the reports job"
git log -1 --format=%B | remain capture
remain capture "remind me to rotate the staging keys on Friday"

Text from an argument or from a pipe is filed under the right tag, the same way the app does it. Type #tag yourself when you already know where it goes.

Browse full screen

remain
A keyboard menu with everything below.
remain todos
Your open todos. Tick them off without leaving the terminal.
remain feeds
Your reading inbox, the articles you saved, and your sources.
remain review
What you captured this week or month, by kind and tag.
remain tags
Your tags as a tree. Create, rename, move, and give a tag an instruction.

Every command takes --json and --plain, so it fits in scripts.

Give your coding agent the same notes

remain mcp runs an MCP server over stdio with the credentials already on disk, so Claude Code or another agent on the same machine can search and add to your notes. More about MCP.

Try it on your own notes

Sign up, type the first thing on your mind, and see where it lands. It works in the browser, on Android and in a terminal.
